The Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) held a welcoming ceremony for incoming students of the Faculty of Electronic and Electrical Engineering (FIEE) for the 2026-II academic cycle, according to a March 20 announcement. The event marked the beginning of a new academic stage for these students.
Academic authorities, faculty members, student representatives, and family members attended the ceremony to support the new students as they started their university journey. During the event, Nicanor Benites Saravia, dean of FIEE, congratulated the incoming class on their effort and dedication. He said that the faculty is committed to providing quality education.
Benites Saravia also said that UNMSM is promoting initiatives aimed at strengthening engineering education by incorporating new technologies and encouraging spaces for academic and professional development. Tania Esther Núñez Zúñiga, vice dean of academics, welcomed students by highlighting the importance of responsibility in this new phase. She said discipline, organization, and consistent work are key pillars for university success.
Carlos Alberto Sotelo López, vice dean of research, emphasized the role of research in training future engineers. He encouraged students to participate in projects that contribute to scientific and technological development in Peru. Student representatives also spoke at the event about building community and making use of opportunities offered by UNMSM.
Participation in organizations such as IEEE was highlighted as a way for students to strengthen their skills, access international networks, and complement their academic training. The ceremony included information about improvements in infrastructure and projects such as smart classrooms and spaces dedicated to research and technological innovation.
The event concluded with diplomas awarded to top-performing students from each professional school. A closing message reaffirmed FIEE’s commitment to comprehensive student development. UNMSM stated its ongoing commitment to academic excellence by providing tools necessary for both professional and personal growth.
