UNMSM marks 151st anniversary of Faculty of Economic Sciences with ceremony and recognitions

The Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) held a formal ceremony on April 7 to commemorate the 151st anniversary of its Faculty of Economic Sciences. The event took place in the Salón de Grados at the Historic Pavilion and was attended by Rector Dr. Jeri Gloria Ramón Ruffner de Vega, Vice Rector for Research and Graduate Studies Dr. José Niño Montero, Dean Dr. Héctor Javier Bendezú Jiménez, as well as faculty members, students, alumni, and invited guests.

The commemoration highlighted the historical role of the Faculty in training professionals dedicated to national development. “San Marcos continues forming economists with critical vision and social commitment, capable of providing solutions to major national problems,” said Ramón Ruffner de Vega during her remarks.

Dean Bendezú Jiménez welcomed attendees and underlined the academic legacy of the Faculty over its 151 years in preparing specialists in economics. As part of the program, distinguished alumni were recognized for their professional achievements. Honorees included Luis Natal del Carpio Castro, executive president of ProInversión; José Antonio Salardi Rodríguez; Gerardo Arturo López Gonzales—both former Ministers of Economy—as well as other professionals who have contributed nationally and internationally.

Newly appointed faculty members for 2024 and 2025 were also introduced at the event. They join academic departments such as Economics, Public Economics, and International Economics with a commitment to strengthen professional training and research.

A cultural presentation by dance group “Cusarillaqta” concluded the celebration.
