The Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) delivered 150 uniforms to its student athletes on March 20 as part of its ongoing support for university sports. The uniforms were distributed through the Centro Universitario del Deporte (CUD) and will be worn by athletes representing the university at the Pre-Pan American tournament, a qualifying event for the Lima 2026 Pan American University Games.
The initiative highlights UNMSM’s commitment to fostering athletic development among its students. The ceremony took place at the university gymnasium, where each athlete received a tracksuit with a jacket and two sets of sportswear, including shirts, shorts, and socks.
“With this uniform, you carry 475 years of history on your chest; you represent the university where the Federación Universitaria del Perú was founded. Therefore, you have the pride of representing the colors and emblem of the Dean of America,” said Sandy Isla Alcoser, head of CUD, during the presentation on behalf of UNMSM’s rectorate.
Isla also said, “We thank San Marcos’ senior management because with their support our athletes can have these uniforms, food, transportation, and administrative staff for CUD.”
Angello Guerrero Murga, coach of UNMSM’s men’s football team, thanked university authorities for their support and acknowledged the dedication shown by student athletes in every competition. “Thank you for all your efforts to advance your university by training from five in the morning and demonstrating your commitment and responsibility to the institution,” Guerrero said.
James Montes, coach of the women’s futsal team, emphasized CUD’s commitment to providing opportunities for young athletes. Student athletes Gabriela Sánchez Llontop and Aldair Estrada Mateo expressed gratitude for receiving new uniforms and shared their pride in representing UNMSM.
The distributed gear went to athletes from five team sports: men’s and women’s football, men’s and women’s futsal, and men’s basketball. These teams qualified for the Pre-Pan American tournament taking place from March 20 to March 27. This event serves as a qualifier for the Pan American University Games scheduled in Lima from July 20 to August 1.
