Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos celebrates 475th anniversary with Gran Pasacalle in Lima

The Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) marked its 475th anniversary with the Gran Pasacalle Sanmarquino, an event that brought together students, faculty, and university leaders for a procession through central streets of Lima on May 4. The celebration featured artistic displays and performances highlighting institutional identity and pride.

The parade began at the Centro Cultural de San Marcos and continued through several notable city streets before concluding at the Circuito Mágico del Agua. There, a special projection was held to unite participants from different generations. This final act underscored the ongoing connection between UNMSM—recognized as the oldest university in the Americas—and Peruvian society.

Delegations from various faculties participated in the event, including Chemistry, Accounting Sciences, Mathematics, Administrative Sciences, Physical Education, Law, and Geological Engineering. Each group presented creative performances that showcased their academic diversity as well as their commitment to culture and national development. Artistic presentations included themed costumes and choreographies designed to strengthen community ties within the university.

A contest recognized outstanding delegations for creativity during the parade: first place went to Accounting Sciences; second place was awarded to Geological Engineering; third place went to Administrative Sciences. These awards honored originality and quality among participants.
