The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) announced on Mar. 24 the official presentation of the Local Tourism Development Plan (PDTL) for the province of Canta, covering the years 2026 to 2030. The plan aims to organize, enhance, and accelerate tourism growth in this destination within the Lima region.
According to Mincetur, the PDTL is a strategic planning tool that will guide orderly and sustainable tourism development. It seeks to improve service quality, prioritize investments, and strengthen tourism competitiveness in Lima.
The plan includes seven investment projects totaling more than S/54.9 million. These projects focus on improving tourist infrastructure and enhancing attractions such as the Cantamarca archaeological site, main squares of Canta and Obrajillo, Santa Rosa de Quives Sanctuary, Huamanmayo waterfall, Checta petroglyphs, and San Buenaventura village. Authorities say these actions will benefit thousands of visitors while creating opportunities for over 12,000 residents by boosting the local economy.
The PDTL identifies 36 tourist resources and outlines an integrated strategy with five objectives, fifteen strategies, and nineteen actions aimed at closing accessibility gaps, strengthening local capacities, and promoting sustainable investment. The goal is to establish Canta as a nearby, safe alternative for domestic tourism.
Mincetur also said that Peru continues its steady recovery in domestic tourism. For the upcoming Holy Week holiday period alone it expects about 1.9 million travelers nationwide—a significant opportunity for destinations like Canta that offer nature experiences close to Lima.
