The Superintendencia Nacional de Salud (Susalud) announced on Apr. 1 that it has activated a contingency plan to ensure immediate interventions and timely care for citizens facing emergencies during the extended Holy Week holiday.

This measure aims to address potential increases in demand at health facilities, ensuring that emergency services are provided without restrictions or conditions. According to Susalud, teams of rights protection specialists will remain on alert throughout the long weekend in both public and private health establishments across Lima and other regions. These teams will conduct unannounced inspections in critical areas such as emergency rooms, intensive care units, and delivery wards to assess service organization and response capacity.

Susalud reminded directors of all health facilities—public and private—that providing emergency care is a fundamental right. The agency said this care must be delivered immediately to everyone, including victims of traffic accidents without mandatory insurance (SOAT), regardless of documentation, payment, or administrative procedures. Such requirements should only occur after the patient has been stabilized.

The agency also warned that failure to comply with these obligations could result in penalties of up to S/2,750,000 for any facility that conditions or denies emergency attention.

During Holy Week in 2025, Susalud received 650 requests from citizens—including consultations and complaints—with difficulties accessing health services accounting for the majority of reported issues.

Throughout the holiday period, Susalud will keep its citizen service channels open around the clock via social media (@SusaludPerú), its mobile app SusaludContigo, WhatsApp at 990 443 390, and toll-free line 113 option 7.
