The Ministry of Health announced on April 27 that six people have received transplants after two organ and tissue donation procedures were completed in less than 48 hours. These procedures provided new opportunities for patients who had been waiting to regain their health or improve their quality of life through transplantation.

The ministry said the processes took place simultaneously, made possible by families who chose to donate organs during times of grief. The first donor, a 56-year-old man, donated his kidneys, which were transported to Alberto Sabogal Sologuren Hospital and Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen Hospital for immediate transplantation.

At the same time, another procedure was carried out at Hipólito Unanue National Hospital in Lima with a second donor aged 47. This individual donated two kidneys and two corneas; the corneas were sent to the National Institute of Ophthalmology.

Mary Díaz Gálvez, Director General of the Directorate General for Donations, Transplants and Blood Bank at the Ministry of Health, said: “La donación es un acto de amor y solidaridad que transforma el dolor en esperanza. Esta generosidad permite que la vida trascienda, logrando que los pacientes recuperen y mejoren su salud junto a sus familias.”

The Ministry reminds citizens that organ and tissue donation is an act that should be discussed within families. According to its statement, one person can save up to ten lives through donation.
