San Marcos presents book highlighting centuries of Peru-Argentina cultural ties

The Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) presented the book “Pasaporte Perú–Argentina: Palabras que enlazan a dos países hermanos” on April 21, marking over four centuries of cultural dialogue between Peru and Argentina. The official launch took place at the historic Casona de San Marcos, with UNMSM Rector Dr. Jeri Gloria Ramón Ruffner de Vega leading the ceremony.

The event emphasized the university’s ongoing role as a center for academic and cultural exchange in Latin America. Participants included Juan Yangali Quintanilla, head of the Biblioteca Nacional del Perú, and Diego González, secretary at the Embassy of Argentina in Peru. Both speakers highlighted how this publication serves as a bridge strengthening historical, intellectual, and cultural connections between the two countries.

The new book compiles more than 40 works by key authors such as César Vallejo, Mario Vargas Llosa, Jorge Luis Borges, and Julio Cortázar. It was jointly edited by the Biblioteca Nacional del Perú, Biblioteca Nacional Mariano Moreno of Argentina, and UNMSM. The publication aims to provide an overview that links literature and history from colonial times to today.

“Pasaporte Perú–Argentina” will also represent Peru at the Buenos Aires International Book Fair in 2026 when Peru is featured as guest of honor.
