The Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos held a series of sports and official activities on May 2 as part of its 475th anniversary, highlighted by a football event in collaboration with Universitario de Deportes.
The celebration brought together Franco Velazco Imparato, administrator of Universitario de Deportes, club officials, former players, university rector Dr. Jeri Ramón Ruffner, faculty deans, professors, and administrative staff. The day’s events included matches between teams from the university and the football club at the Estadio Olímpico de San Marcos.
During the day-long program, various teams competed in friendly matches. The Super Máster team of San Marcos faculty won against their counterparts from Universitario. In women’s youth competition, Universitario achieved a two-goal victory. The men’s youth team from San Marcos secured a win after penalties. In the main match of the afternoon, San Marcos’ master team defeated legends from Universitario by two goals.
A key moment was the signing of an institutional cooperation agreement between Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos and Universitario de Deportes focused on academic, scientific, cultural and sports collaboration. Dr. Jeri Ramón Ruffner and Velazco Imparato said this partnership will strengthen ties between both organizations for joint research and educational initiatives.
As part of official ceremonies at the stadium’s main box area attended by university authorities and former players, historical figures from Universitario were honored for their contributions to Peruvian football with diplomas and medals presented by Dr. Ramón Ruffner.
