The Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) announced on Apr. 1 that its University Council, led by Rector Dr. Jeri Ramón Ruffner, has approved the final results of the Public Competition for Undergraduate Teaching Contracts in General Studies for the first semester of 2026. The process was governed by Rectoral Resolution No. 003362-2026.
According to UNMSM officials, this competition aimed to select and hire qualified professionals for in-person teaching roles in General Studies during the academic semester 2026-I. Of the total 84 positions offered—71 at Ciudad Universitaria and 13 at other campuses—65 were filled: 54 at Ciudad Universitaria and 11 elsewhere.
Elsa Marchinares Maekawa, secretary general of UNMSM, said that there were still 19 unfilled positions after the initial process: “17 in Ciudad Universitaria and two in other locations.” In response, the University Council has approved a new public competition to fill these remaining vacancies and meet institutional academic needs.
Dr. Ramón said that this new selection process will be accelerated so that files can be reviewed and evaluations started as soon as next week. She explained that “the Vice-Rectorate for Undergraduate Academic Affairs must approve a new schedule to cover the nineteen vacant positions.” Ramón also announced an upcoming competition specifically for assistant professor posts and encouraged current contract teachers to participate.
“After this promotion, a contest must also be called for assistants since many will move up to associate level,” she said. “Those positions will become vacant and should be contested so they are not lost.” Meanwhile, Dr. Carlos Cabrera Carranza said there would also be a separate entrance competition with seventy-four posts across all faculties—sixty-four in Lima and ten elsewhere—to help address current demand.
