The Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) and the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE) announced on Apr. 20 the launch of a program offering 2,000 specialization scholarships aimed at improving employability and developing skills in areas considered strategic for the current job market.

This initiative seeks to close gaps in access to professional training and provide tools that will help recipients compete more effectively in a globalized environment. The effort is part of San Marcos’ broader mission to promote cultural and social well-being through responsibility, equity, inclusion, and sustainable development initiatives, according to the official website.

During the ceremony, Jeri Gloria Ramón Ruffner de Vega, Rector of UNMSM, said that this joint effort results from over two decades of collaboration between the university and MTPE. She said: “Sin educación no se logra el desarrollo del país. San Marcos es la universidad del Perú, del pueblo y de todas las sangres.”

The scholarships will offer official certification from UNMSM across four main fields: Web Applications, Security, Well-being, and Socioemotional Skills—with 500 places available in each specialty. The Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion said this initiative aligns with a vision for building a modern and inclusive state by connecting national talent with employment opportunities. He also recognized San Marcos’ academic excellence as key to the program’s success.

UNMSM operates as an autonomous public entity recognized by Peru’s constitution according to its official website. It leads public universities in rankings such as QS, Scimago, and Webometrics; offers 81 undergraduate programs along with postgraduate options; utilizes multiple campuses including central facilities and provincial extensions; focuses on advancing knowledge dissemination; promotes research; engages with communities; holds top positions among public universities globally—all according to information from its official website.

With this scholarship program UNMSM reaffirms its leadership role among public institutions dedicated to education advancement and sustainable development while continuing efforts toward preparing professionals who can address present-day challenges.
