Rodolfo Acuña Namihas sworn in as minister of Economy and Finance

Rodolfo Acuña Namihas was sworn in as the new minister of Economy and Finance by President José María Balcázar on March 17 at a ceremony held at the Government Palace. Acuña is an economist with more than 39 years of professional experience in the public sector.

His appointment is significant due to his extensive background in public management, planning, budgeting, modernization, investments, and international cooperation. The government said that his designation reaffirms its commitment to technical, responsible, and results-oriented economic policy leadership.

Acuña has completed master’s studies in Public Management at the National University of Distance Education in Spain and an MBA from San Ignacio de Loyola University. He has led national public sector budget processes as director general of Public Budget at the Ministry of Economy and Finance from 2011 to 2017. During this period, he promoted a Results-Oriented Budget Management model that earned first place in the III “Gestión para Resultados del Desarrollo – 2017” award organized by the Inter-American Development Bank.

He has also served as head of Planning and Budget Offices for several ministries including Energy and Mines; Agriculture and Irrigation; Housing, Construction and Sanitation; and Development and Social Inclusion. Additionally, he held positions such as secretary general at both the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Defense, deputy minister for Defense Resources at the Ministry of Defense, and deputy minister of Treasury at the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

The government stated that with Acuña’s appointment it aims to maintain a technically sound approach to managing Peru’s economic policies.
