Artist Robert Ferrer i Martorell unveiled an installation titled “Two Spaces, One Geometry” at the Museo de Arte de Lima – MALI on April 22. The work was conceived specifically for the museum and explores themes of space, matter, and measurement by occupying the vertical void that connects the hall with the upper level.

The exhibition matters as it highlights both contemporary artistic practices and MALI’s ongoing efforts to make art accessible to diverse audiences. The Museo de Arte de Lima enhances community wellbeing by offering accessible art exhibitions and educational initiatives that promote appreciation of Peru’s cultural identity, according to the official website.

Ferrer i Martorell’s installation features suspended linear elements in slow movement, creating a shifting atmosphere influenced by natural light entering from above. The composition is organized around two contrasting centers—one golden and warm, one silvery and cool—using brass and aluminum rods. These elements suggest processes of disintegration and transition, generating a space marked by tension and unstable equilibrium at their intersection. As stated in exhibition materials: “Ferrer i Martorell thus continues his exploration of geometry as a sensitive language, in which module, repetition, and variation open new possibilities for the relationship between body, space, and perception.”

The artist lives in Selva, Mallorca. He is recognized as part of a new generation linked to Spanish geometric abstract art traditions. His recent practice focuses on analyzing space through manual techniques close to craftsmanship. He holds a degree from the Polytechnic University of Valencia with experience exhibiting across Europe and Latin America.

The Museo de Arte de Lima utilizes the historic Palacio de la Exposición as its primary facility according to its official website. Managed by Patronato de las Artes—a private non-profit organization led by notable Peruvian business leaders—the museum preserves Peru’s artistic heritage from pre-Columbian times through modernity while advancing public education according to its official website. Established in 1961 as a national cultural center serving audiences throughout Peru according to its official website, MALI continues its mission with exhibitions like this one.
