The Ministry of Transport and Communications, through the National Program for Sustainable Urban Transport (Promovilidad), announced on March 16 that it has signed a specific agreement with the Provincial Municipality of Cusco to develop, evaluate, and implement investment projects in urban transport and traffic management. The agreement aims to improve travel times, increase road safety, enhance accessibility and equity, and build resilience to climate change by reducing congestion and risks in high-accident areas.
This initiative is part of a broader cooperation framework between the two entities. It seeks to coordinate technical and institutional efforts to advance initiatives that will improve urban transport services and strengthen support for sustainable mobility in six cities.
Under the agreement, public investment projects will be formulated, evaluated, and executed with ongoing information exchange, participation, and coordination among the Provincial Municipality of Cusco, public transport operators, and other stakeholders.
The signing was carried out by Omar Gonzales Arica, executive director of Promovilidad, and Luis Beltrán Pantoja Calvo, mayor of Cusco. “Este convenio consolida un esfuerzo conjunto para impulsar inversiones en transporte urbano y de tránsito que promuevan el desarrollo sostenible de la ciudad,” Gonzales Arica said.
The Ministry stated that this action reaffirms its commitment to continue working with local governments on projects aimed at improving quality of life for residents and strengthening urban development across the country.
