The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) announced on March 14 that it has called a meeting with artisanal fishers from the Macro South region to discuss the fishing agenda for southern Peru. The event is scheduled for Saturday, March 21 at the CITE Pesquero Ilo in Moquegua and will include Minister César Quispe Luján, Vice Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Jesús Eloy Barrientos, and technical staff.

This meeting aims to address requests from artisanal fishing organizations in Arequipa, Moquegua, and Tacna regarding the development of fishing activities in southern Peru. The invitation was communicated through Letter No. 00000019-2026-PRODUCE/DVPA sent to Edgar Jiménez Caipa, president of Macro Sur.

During the session, participants will discuss topics such as formalization of artisanal fishing vessels, responsible management of hydrobiological resources, sustainability measures for anchoveta stocks, implementation of Law No. 31749, and initiatives related to building desalination plants in southern Peru.

PRODUCE reiterated that this meeting seeks to establish a technical and ongoing dialogue space with artisanal fishers to strengthen the legitimacy of public policies on fisheries, safeguard sustainability of hydrobiological resources, and optimize economic benefits for those who depend on this activity.
