Prime Minister Luis Arroyo met with members of Somos Perú and Alianza Para el Progreso on April 15 to present the main priorities of his administration and address lawmakers’ concerns before seeking a vote of confidence.
The meetings are part of a series of discussions with political groups in Congress prior to the investiture vote. Arroyo said, “Our objective is to address the most urgent needs of deep Peru. We are committed to unlocking projects, closing gaps, and ensuring that government decisions respond to the real demands of regions and citizens.”
During the session with Somos Perú, participants included legislators José Pazo, Héctor Valer, Alfredo Azurín, Paul Gutiérrez, Ana Zegarra, Elizabeth Medina, as well as regional governors Jorge Chávez (Loreto) and Jorge Luis Pérez (Lambayeque). The meeting with Alianza Para el Progreso was attended by Eduardo Salhuana, Jorge Luis Flores, Luis Kamiche, Rosio Torres, Segundo Quiroz, Magaly Ruiz, Jorge Marticorena, Lady Camones, Elva Julón and Manuel García.
Ministers from several departments—including Transport and Communications; Housing; Economy; Production; Defense; Interior; Energy and Mines; Health—joined both sessions. They outlined progress in their sectors such as improving connectivity infrastructure projects that had been stalled previously strengthening hospitals expanding rural electrification efforts responding more effectively to emergencies.
Lawmakers from both parties agreed on the importance of maintaining momentum in project execution especially for initiatives addressing urgent national needs or at risk during transitional periods.
At the end of these meetings Arroyo reaffirmed the executive branch’s willingness for open dialogue saying: “Rest assured that we have taken note of everything expressed. We will not let you down.”
