Prime Minister Luis Arroyo led a meeting on April 14 between cabinet ministers and members of the Acción Popular parliamentary group to seek consensus before the cabinet’s presentation to Congress for a vote of confidence scheduled for April 16.
The dialogue is part of efforts by the executive branch to build agreements that support political stability and national development. The talks are intended to address lawmakers’ concerns and present the main policy guidelines of Arroyo’s cabinet.
“We reaffirm our willingness for open and constructive dialogue with all political forces, with the firm purpose of reaching agreements that contribute to the stability and development of the country,” said Arroyo during the meeting.
Parliamentarians Carlos Alva, Elvis Vergara, Ilich López, Luis Aragón, Juan Carlos Mori, Silvia Monteza, Edwin Martínez, and Marleny Portero participated in the session. Ministers from Economy and Finance; Energy and Mines; Women and Vulnerable Populations; Interior; Transport and Communications; as well as Housing, Construction, and Sanitation were also present.
According to government statements from previous meetings with congressional groups, these discussions underscore a commitment by the executive branch to democratic dialogue. The aim is to promote joint measures that benefit citizens in a context requiring responsibility from all branches of government.
As preparations continue for the upcoming vote in Congress, further meetings are expected between cabinet officials and other parliamentary factions.
