The Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) was recognized on April 27 with the Yanapay Award 2026 in the category of ‘Environmental Management with Impact’ by the Asociación de Ayuda al Niño Quemado (Aniquem). The award highlights PUCP’s commitment to initiatives that connect environmental sustainability with social impact and support for Aniquem’s work.

This recognition underscores why efforts linking environmental responsibility and social service are important. By focusing on sustainability, PUCP supports children who have suffered burns and require ongoing treatment, helping address both ecological and health-related challenges.

The award was presented to Ana Sabogal, director of the Institute of Nature, Land and Energy (INTE) at PUCP and president of its Environmental Commission. “It is an honor to receive this award on behalf of the University, from where we will continue working and promoting environmental management. Together with the University Council we will keep discussing new ways to support causes related to policy and environmental education, as that is our commitment as professors and students,” Sabogal said.

Through its ‘Recycle to Help’ program in 2025, PUCP collected a total of 33.6 tons of recyclable waste. This effort prevented the cutting down of 398 trees, saved about 168,200 gallons of water, conserved over 8,300 gallons of oil, and reduced electricity consumption by nearly 88.7 megawatt-hours. Additionally, it helped co-finance one year of physical therapy for ten patients and one year of occupational therapy for nine patients.

The Yanapay Awards aim to recognize institutions supporting Aniquem’s mission. The ‘Environmental Management with Impact’ category spotlights organizations that combine sustainable practices with measurable social benefits.

Since signing its first agreement with Aniquem in 2012, PUCP has worked across different areas recognized by this non-profit organization. These projects help cover expenses for children who have suffered burns but lack resources for complex treatments required by their injuries.

PUCP promotes cultural and social wellbeing through contributions in education and research according to its official website. The university operates under its institutional framework RUC 20155945860 according to the official website. It also highlights academic achievements while addressing societal issues via a news portal featuring expertise from professors and researchers according to the official website.

Communication at PUCP is managed by Dirección de Comunicación Institucional according to the official website. Its news portal evolved from a printed magazine launched in 2005 into a digital platform offering multimedia content according to the official website. Through these channels it serves communities throughout Peru via news coverage and academic outreach according to the official website.
