The region of Piura announced on March 24 a series of actions to strengthen the prevention and control of tuberculosis, marking World Tuberculosis Day. The initiative aims to close gaps in detection and treatment, reaffirming the region’s commitment to public health.
Health facilities in Piura, Sullana, and Chulucanas have increased active searches for individuals with symptoms of tuberculosis. Authorities said every patient suspected of having the disease will receive rapid diagnosis and immediate access to free treatment. This approach is intended to prevent complications and new infections.
More than 100 health professionals from primary care—representing Minsa, EsSalud, the National Police of Peru, Armed Forces, and INPE—have received training focused on standardizing processes. The goal is to reduce mortality from tuberculosis in northern Peru.
At the same time, information sessions are being held in waiting rooms at health centers. These sessions provide direct guidance about warning signs, risk factors, and emphasize the importance of completing treatment.
Regional authorities highlighted the role played by nursing graduates who lead the Strategy for Prevention and Control of Tuberculosis. Their work in clinical follow-up and patient support is described as essential for ensuring full recovery.
