The Hospital de Chulucanas in Piura announced on May 3 the implementation of a Clinical Surveillance Unit (Uviclin) with 30 beds to provide timely care for patients affected by dengue. The hospital has also established an exclusive treatment area to improve patient care and response capacity.
This initiative aims to ensure that people in the region receive appropriate medical attention during the current dengue situation. The new Uviclin has enabled the hiring of 47 health professionals, including doctors, nurses, technicians, biologists, and technologists. These staff members will work to guarantee prompt diagnosis and proper management of cases.
The implementation follows a transfer from the Regional Government of Piura and collaboration between the Ministry of Health (Minsa) and the Regional Health Directorate (Diresa). It is part of Minsa’s “Plan de Prevención y Control del Dengue 2026.”
Dengue is transmitted by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Common symptoms include high fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, pain behind the eyes, and skin rashes. Warning signs can include severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding, drowsiness, irritability, or general weakness.
Minsa advises people who experience these symptoms not to self-medicate but instead stay hydrated and seek immediate care at a nearby health facility for proper recovery and to avoid complications.
For information about dengue or related concerns, Minsa offers free guidance through Line 113 as well as WhatsApp or Telegram at numbers 952842623 and 955557000. Inquiries can also be sent via email to inforsalud@minsa.gob.pe.
