The Regional Health Directorate of Piura inspected more than 28,000 homes in the settlements of Señor de los Milagros, Susana Higuchi, Javier Heraud, José María Arguedas, and San Pedro as part of efforts to prevent the spread of dengue-carrying mosquitoes, according to an April 26 announcement.
This inspection is part of the “Dengue Prevention and Control Plan 2026” developed by the Ministry of Health. More than 40 inspectors were deployed across areas in the Piura district to carry out these activities.
The Ministry of Health and Regional Health Directorate are asking residents to allow entry for health inspectors who are properly identified. Inspectors visit households to conduct larval control measures that include treating water storage containers with pyriproxyfen larvicide. This product is considered safe and has been approved by the World Health Organization.
Dengue is transmitted through bites from Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Common symptoms include high fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, pain behind the eyes, and skin rashes. Warning signs such as severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding symptoms, drowsiness or irritability should prompt immediate medical attention.
