The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) announced on April 6 that it will hold an auction for eight electric transmission projects through the Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinversión) during the second quarter of the year, with an investment value exceeding $675 million.

These projects are part of the Transmission Plans for 2025–2034 and are intended to strengthen the reliability of Peru’s national interconnected electrical system, improve service quality, and ensure timely energy supply for thousands of citizens. The works aim to expand electricity transport capacity, reduce congestion risks in power networks, and support growing energy demand in key regions across the country. This is expected to contribute to economic and social development in those areas.

The projects have been divided into two groups. The first group includes works in Piura, Lambayeque, Junín, Ayacucho, and Cusco: a 500 kV Miguel Grau – Pariñas link with associated substations; several 220 kV links such as Felam – Tierras Nuevas – Salitral; a new Palián substation; and a Muyurina – Mollepata link. The second group covers Lima, Ica, Cusco, Puno, and Madre de Dios: a major Colectora – Bicentenario – Chilca connection at 500 kV; Tintaya Nueva – Nueva San Gabán at 220 kV; Nueva San Gabán – Puerto Maldonado at 220 kV; and San Román – Yocara – Maravilla (Juliaca) at 138 kV—all including necessary expansions and substations.

MINEM said it remains committed to advancing modern energy infrastructure that ensures continuous quality service throughout Peru while promoting regional competitiveness. According to the official website, MINEM manages policies for mining and energy sectors with an emphasis on sustainable economic growth and environmental protection. It encourages harmonious relations among sector participants as well as communities across Peru.

The ministry operates under its minister’s guidance using central headquarters in San Borja along with regional directorates nationwide according to its official website. It influences policy by issuing regulations guiding sustainable practices as reported by MINEM.

Looking ahead, MINEM continues its efforts toward developing sustainable mining and energy practices while supporting local economies according to its official site. The upcoming auctions reflect this ongoing strategy.
