The Ministry of Health of Peru announced on March 15 that it has completed maintenance and equipment upgrades at Food and Nutrition Centers No. 1 and No. 3 in Lima. These improvements will allow the preparation and distribution of more than 25,000 monthly food rations, including breakfasts and lunches, for low-income families in the Cercado de Lima and La Victoria districts.
The initiative aims to strengthen access to healthy and safe nutrition for vulnerable populations by providing daily food rations from Monday to Friday at both centers. The ministry said these actions are intended to support families with limited resources.
Upgrades included comprehensive maintenance of building facades, internal spaces, kitchen infrastructure, as well as the renewal of equipment and utensils. The goal is to optimize physical conditions, hygiene, and biosafety standards for proper food preparation.
Uniforms were also distributed to staff responsible for preparing and distributing meals. This measure is designed to reinforce working conditions and ensure appropriate hygiene practices throughout each stage of service delivery.
Representatives from the San Andrés Police Station and business associations from the Mesa Redonda area attended the official presentation of the Food and Nutrition Centers. They highlighted the importance of this initiative for families most in need.
According to the Ministry of Health, these efforts demonstrate its ongoing commitment to strengthening food support services and improving care conditions for Peru’s most vulnerable residents.
