The Ministry of Culture announced on March 23 the opening of a national call for artisans and traditional artists across Peru to participate in the July 2026 edition of Ruraq maki, hecho a mano. This year’s event marks the twentieth anniversary of the exhibition-sale.
The initiative aims to bring together creators from all regions and promote traditional art and crafts. Artisans can apply free of charge between March 23 and April 12, using an online form available on the ministry’s website. Applications are open to individual or collective workshops, independent workshops, family workshops, community workshops, artisan associations, or artisan cooperatives.
Selected participants will take part in the event scheduled from July 18 to July 29 at the Ministry’s main headquarters in San Borja. The official guidelines for participation are published online. The program has become an important platform over two decades for safeguarding and promoting traditional arts throughout Peru.
Ruraq maki also encourages intercultural dialogue and recognizes Indigenous peoples and Afro-Peruvians as bearers of ancestral knowledge. Over its history, it has served as a meeting point between creators and citizens while generating economic opportunities for communities.
Interested applicants can send questions about their applications until March 30 via email or by phone; consolidated answers will be posted on April 6 on the ministry’s website. A live broadcast explaining the application process is scheduled for March 25 on YouTube. The list of selected participants will be published May 19 through official social media channels.
