The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on March 27 that Peru has installed a total of 3,889 5G antennas across the country. This marks an increase of more than 800 percent compared to the approximately 400 antennas recorded in 2021.
The expansion is significant for Peru’s digital transformation efforts, as it aims to improve mobile internet quality and modernize telecommunications infrastructure. The MTC said this progress reflects active collaboration between the government and private operators to extend high-capacity digital networks for millions of Peruvians.
The ministry stated that it has promoted the deployment of this technology by efficiently allocating radio spectrum and creating conditions that encourage private investment. These measures are intended to foster growth in modern networks throughout the nation.
According to the MTC, fifth-generation (5G) technology enables faster connection speeds, lower latency, and supports connecting multiple devices at once. This capacity opens possibilities for advanced services such as telemedicine, digital education, smart cities initiatives, internet of things applications, and industrial automation.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting public policies that make it easier to deploy telecommunications infrastructure. It also emphasized its goal to ensure more citizens have access to high-quality digital services.
