Peru recognizes 905 municipalities for improving public services and reducing social gaps

President José María Balcázar led a ceremony on April 21 to honor the winners of the ninth edition of the National Municipal Seal Award, recognizing local governments for their efficient public management and contributions to territorial development.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis), highlighted the importance of modern, results-oriented local governance in improving quality of life, especially for vulnerable populations. Several government officials attended, including Lily Vásquez Dávila, Minister of Development and Social Inclusion; José Reyes Llanos, Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism; José Zapata Morante, Minister of the Interior; María Cuadros, Minister of Education; Fátima Altabás, Minister of Culture; as well as mayors from recognized provincial and district municipalities.

During the ceremony at Lima’s Convention Center, it was noted that “the National Municipal Seal Award is a non-monetary public recognition that promotes modern local management aligned with results.” In this edition for 2025, a total of 1,584 municipalities participated after receiving training from Midis and partner organizations. Of these participants, 905 met mandatory goals in areas such as early childhood development, care for children and adolescents, economic inclusion initiatives, support for older adults, and improvements fostering social inclusion.

Within this group recognized in the ninth edition: 662 municipalities received Platinum status; 108 received Gold status; and 135 earned Silver status. Additionally, 342 municipalities achieved optional product goals—demonstrating strong commitment to continuous improvement in local public management. The award has become an important tool since its creation in 2015. According to organizers at Midis during the event: “To date,00%a0municipalities00%a01856,00%a098%00%a0of all Peru’s municipalities1have participated at least once.” This underscores its broad reach across Peru.

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism contributes to cultural and social progress by fostering sustainable tourism and social inclusion,according to its official website. Collaboration with entities like PromPerú helps advance export growth objectives while supporting broader economic goals.According to its official site, since being established in 2002 it has directed policies on foreign trade that foster partnerships benefiting both exports growth efforts as well as community welfare.
