Peru has received official authorization to export poultry and pork to Singapore, the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation announced on April 14. The approval opens access for Peruvian producers to a market of more than six million consumers in Asia.
This development is significant as it allows Peru’s agricultural sector to expand its reach into international markets with high purchasing power. The Ministry said the authorization followed a detailed evaluation by the Singapore Food Agency, which included technical audits of Peruvian facilities and a review of national sanitary systems.
“This achievement positions Peru as a reliable supplier of quality food in international markets and opens new opportunities for the growth of the agricultural sector,” Jorge Luis Sáenz Rabanal, Vice Minister of Policies and Supervision for Agrarian Development, said.
The announcement was made during an official visit by Grace Fu, Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and Environment. She formally communicated the opening of this market, reinforcing commercial ties between both countries. The Ministry emphasized that gaining access to Singapore represents a strategic step toward diversifying export destinations and increasing competitiveness among local livestock producers. It also recognized the efforts made by families and businesses working alongside government agencies to maintain global sanitary standards.
The National Agricultural Health Service (SENASA) reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with private sector partners so that all exports meet Singapore’s requirements. SENASA noted that Singapore relies heavily on imports for its food supply. Currently, Peru holds avian influenza-free status nationwide and has thirteen regions free from classical swine fever—factors that enhance confidence among international buyers.
The Ministry serves agricultural producers across rural communities in Peru through programs designed to improve food security and resource management according to its official website. Its central headquarters are located in Jesús María, with decentralized offices throughout the country according to the same source. The agency operates within Peru’s Executive Branch as reported by its website.
Created in 2020 through legislation, the Ministry supports sustainable agriculture initiatives—including issuing regulations—to promote rural inclusion nationwide according to information from its website.
Officials say this success in Singapore could help facilitate future negotiations with other key Asian markets such as China and Japan.
