The Ministry of Health of Peru shared its experience in dengue prevention and control during the international webinar “Towards Dengue Vaccination at Scale: Lessons from Peru and Indonesia for Adoption, Integration and Impact,” held as part of Vaccination Week in the Americas 2026 in Singapore, according to an April 30 announcement.
The topic is important as dengue remains a significant public health challenge in many countries. Sharing experiences helps strengthen vaccination strategies and disease response efforts internationally.
During the event, Dr. Alberto Tejada Conroy, director general of the Office of Technical International Cooperation (OGCTI), said that Peru has made progress with gradual implementation of vaccination, epidemiological integration, vector control, and innovative Wolbachia strategy. He also said that dengue vaccination is being implemented in prioritized regions such as Piura, Tumbes, Loreto, and Ucayali. Coverage is expanding to higher-risk populations within a comprehensive evidence-based response.
Dr. César Vladimir Munayco Escate from the National Center for Epidemiology, Prevention and Disease Control participated in a discussion panel to share technical expertise on surveillance and response to dengue. Internationally, Peru’s leadership was recognized within the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), where it promotes initiatives aimed at strengthening regional dengue prevention efforts. The importance of the Roadmap for Dengue Prevention and Control 2026–2030 was highlighted as a key tool for joint action among economies.
The event brought together international specialists and representatives from various countries to exchange experiences and reinforce large-scale vaccination strategies against dengue.
With this participation, Peru reaffirms its commitment to public health innovation and international cooperation while contributing actively to regional solutions against emerging diseases.
