The Ministry of Health in Peru advised the public on March 30 to pay attention to warning signs that may indicate a possible heart attack and to adopt healthy habits that can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Recognizing symptoms such as chest pain radiating to the arm, neck, or back, as well as nausea, sweating, and difficulty breathing is important. In some cases—especially for people with diabetes—these symptoms may appear differently, including shortness of breath.

Dr. Rubén Azañero, a cardiologist from the Ministry of Health, said recognizing these symptoms early allows people to act quickly and receive proper care. “Se recomienda mantener una alimentación saludable, realizar actividad física de manera regular, evitar el consumo de tabaco, moderar la ingesta de alcohol y controlar enfermedades como la hipertensión, la diabetes y el colesterol elevado,” Azañero said.

The ministry also advises individuals over 40 years old to undergo regular medical check-ups. These should include clinical evaluations, electrocardiograms, laboratory tests, and specialized exams if risk factors are present.

The Ministry of Health confirmed its commitment to continue promoting healthy lifestyles and preventive actions aimed at protecting cardiovascular health in the population.
