The Ministry of Health of Peru announced on March 19 that it is strengthening cooperation with France and Spain to advance key health projects. Minister Juan Carlos Velasco is leading efforts with both national and international partners to improve the quality of healthcare services.
A working meeting was held with Xavier Mesnard, country director of the French Development Agency (AFD), and José Roberto Piqueras Bouillon, general coordinator of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). The main goal is to resolve obstacles in strategic projects, especially those focused on developing Integrated Health Networks in Lima Norte.
These initiatives are expected to improve infrastructure and expand access to quality health services, particularly in high-demand areas such as San Martín de Porres. “In four months we are going to close historic gaps, improve care, and bring quality services to those who need them most,” said Minister Juan Carlos Velasco. He added, “Lima Norte is an area with a high population density and great needs, and we will make these accessible for all families.”
At the same time, Velasco is coordinating with the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Ministry of Health to recover a 59,000-square-meter plot in Chorrillos. The minister said, “Recovering this land is a fundamental step to continue expanding our capacity for care. We are recovering spaces and allocating them for citizens’ health services.”
The strengthened partnerships aim to address longstanding challenges in Peru’s healthcare system by improving facilities and making essential services more widely available.
