The Ministry of Health of Peru held a follow-up meeting with organizations representing people affected by tuberculosis and the Principal Recipient of the Global Fund to Fight TB on April 28. The meeting focused on reviewing progress and setting goals for community interventions in regions most impacted by the disease.
This topic is important as it highlights efforts to strengthen Peru’s national response to tuberculosis, particularly through collaboration between health authorities, civil society, and international partners.
The session took place both in person and virtually, bringing together representatives from various regions. The event was led by the Directorate for Prevention and Control of Tuberculosis.
The ministry said its work with the Global Fund helps strengthen community-based interventions through funding, technical assistance, and support for innovative initiatives aimed at controlling tuberculosis. According to officials at the meeting, active participation from organizations affected by TB helps bring health services closer to communities while reducing stigma and providing social support during treatment.
During this session, participants reviewed strategies for early detection of cases and improving adherence to treatment. They also discussed ways to better support those affected by TB throughout their care process.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment “de continuar promoviendo un enfoque centrado en las personas, donde la voz de los afectados tenga un rol protagónico en la toma de decisiones.”
