The Ministry of Health of Peru announced on Apr. 24 the launch of Vaccination Week in the Americas (SVA) 2026, a nationwide health initiative aimed at protecting thousands of Peruvians and closing immunization gaps, especially among vulnerable populations.
This campaign, which will run from April 25 to May 3 under the slogan “vaccination for all,” will intensify efforts across the country to provide free access to all 18 vaccines included in the national schedule. These vaccines protect against 28 diseases such as measles, polio, diphtheria, tetanus, hepatitis A and B, influenza, human papillomavirus (HPV), yellow fever, and pertussis.
The vaccination drive targets everyone but places special emphasis on groups at higher risk: children under five years old; children under ten with incomplete vaccination schedules; adolescents aged nine to eighteen for HPV vaccination; pregnant women needing protection against influenza and other diseases; and adults over sixty who are vulnerable to respiratory illnesses like influenza and pneumococcus.
As part of SVA activities, health brigades will go door-to-door in homes, markets, and community spaces to ensure no one is left unprotected. The Ministry urges residents to welcome these teams into their homes. According to officials, health workers are fully identified and trained to provide information and safely administer vaccines during home visits.
The official launch event for SVA 2026 will take place in Chiclayo at Estadio Capitán Remigio Elías Aguirre Romero with authorities present. The Ministry encourages citizens to participate by opening their doors for properly identified brigades and joining this collective protection effort. Parents are also advised to check their children’s vaccination cards and ensure all doses are up-to-date by visiting local health centers.
