The Ministry of Health in Peru announced on Apr. 3 the nationwide implementation of version 2 of the Tuberculosis Management Information System (SIGTB), a digital platform designed to improve comprehensive monitoring of patients with tuberculosis.
The new version aims to enhance the management and quality of information related to tuberculosis cases across the country. The system is part of Peru’s Electronic Health Records System and incorporates substantial improvements over its previous iteration, according to officials.
In 2025, SIGTB recorded a total of 34,004 tuberculosis cases nationwide. Of these, 68 percent were reported by Ministry of Health facilities, while EsSalud accounted for 20 percent, the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) for 10.6 percent, and the remaining cases by the National Police, Armed Forces health services, and private sector facilities.
Key features include streamlined data entry through a more user-friendly interface and enhanced tools for registering and tracking public health interventions such as active case finding in high-risk areas. The system also enables identification and follow-up with individuals at risk or vulnerable to tuberculosis—including their family contacts—to facilitate access to preventive treatment.
Additional advantages cited by health authorities are detailed reporting capabilities that support decision-making at various management levels and interoperability with other national platforms such as NetLAB, SIHCE-HIV, and Sinadef. This integration aims to optimize information exchange between institutions within the health sector.
During its phased rollout, version 1 will remain operational until all healthcare establishments have completed updating their records in SIGTB version 2. Access is restricted to authorized healthcare personnel from Ministry facilities as well as EsSalud, Armed Forces health services, National Police establishments, and staff from the Directorate for Tuberculosis Prevention and Control.
