The Ministry of Health of Peru announced on April 23 that it is strengthening the skills of medical professionals through a specialized workshop focused on the clinical management and hemodynamic support for patients with severe yellow fever. The event, organized by the Directorate for Prevention and Control of Metaxenic Diseases and Zoonoses, aims to ensure timely and quality care for high-impact diseases.
The training targets infectious disease specialists, intensive care doctors, and emergency physicians from referral hospitals in Cusco, Puno, Ayacucho, Huánuco, Junín, and Madre de Dios. These regions are considered areas with higher epidemiological risk and significant migratory flows.
According to the ministry’s announcement, the main goal is to standardize and strengthen clinical competencies for managing severe cases of yellow fever. This initiative seeks to reduce complications and mortality while enhancing critical care unit capabilities in prioritized regions.
The workshop covers early diagnosis updates, clinical management at primary care levels, as well as protocols for advanced life support and hemodynamic stabilization in critical patients. The activity is being conducted in coordination with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) representation in Peru under the framework of the “Rapid Response Plan” implementation.
Scheduled for April 23-24 in Cusco city, national experts will participate by sharing key experiences and knowledge aimed at improving Peru’s clinical response to yellow fever.
