The Ministry of Health in Peru held a clinical backlog reduction day on March 29 at the María Auxiliadora Hospital, according to a statement from the ministry. The event was supervised by Dr. Luis Loro Chero, Vice Minister of Healthcare Benefits and Insurance, alongside the hospital director.
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve timely access to specialized health services and reduce waiting lists for patients covered by the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS). Services provided during this session included gastroenterology, endocrinology, and rheumatology consultations.
According to the ministry, these actions are intended to strengthen hospital capacity and improve care quality for the population. Dr. Loro Chero highlighted that “the endoscopy service at María Auxiliadora Hospital operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” adding that it is considered a model for other health facilities in Peru.
Dr. Loro Chero also said that under instructions from Minister Juan Carlos Velasco Guerrero, “the Ministry continues working to ensure all patients receive equal rights and quality care without distinction.” During his visit, he inspected new areas within the hospital including the Radiological Reading Room in the Imaging Department, an Acute Renal Replacement Therapy Unit in Nephrology, and a Telemedicine Area—all expected to be available soon for patient use.
These Sunday clinic sessions reflect broader efforts by health authorities in Peru to address delays in specialized medical attention while expanding access through facility improvements.
