The Ministry of Health of Peru announced on April 24 that it has distributed more than 6.2 million vaccine doses nationwide to support the upcoming Vaccination Week in the Americas, which will take place from April 25 to May 3 under the theme “Vaccination for all”.
The campaign aims to provide broad protection against a range of infectious diseases, with vaccines distributed including those for hepatitis B, rotavirus, polio, pneumococcus, influenza, measles, chickenpox, yellow fever, human papillomavirus (HPV), tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough among others.
According to the ministry’s National Center for Strategic Health Resource Supply (Cenares), Lima Metropolitan area received more than 1.29 million doses during the second quarter. Other regions receiving significant quantities include Puno with over 539 thousand doses; Cusco with about 340 thousand; Arequipa with more than 267 thousand; Loreto with around 206 thousand; and Cajamarca with just over 201 thousand doses.
The National Vaccination Schedule in Peru includes a total of eighteen vaccines that protect against twenty-eight infectious diseases throughout all stages of life. The ministry said this ensures comprehensive coverage for the population.
Health authorities are urging parents and caregivers to be vigilant about their children’s vaccination records and ensure they receive all necessary doses at health centers. The ministry also called on citizens to welcome properly identified vaccination teams into their homes as part of this collective protection effort.
