The Ministry of Health in Peru announced on March 14 that more than 3,000 health establishments are now connected to the National Telehealth Network. The network currently links 3,076 facilities and offers five telemedicine services: teleconsultation, teleinterconsultation, diagnostic support, telemonitoring, and teleorientation.
This expansion has enabled more than 9.5 million remote medical consultations since 2023. The digitalization effort allows people living in remote regions, border areas, and rural communities to access healthcare without having to travel long distances.
Recently added to the network are four new health centers: Qhali Kay Community Mental Health Center (DIRIS Lima Sur), Santo Tomás Community Mental Health Center (GERESA Cusco), Las Pirias de Jaén Health Center (DIRESA Cajamarca), and Breu Health Post (DIRESA Ucayali). With these additions, nearly one-third of all health establishments in the country—32.93 percent—are now part of the network. This growth expands coverage for telemedicine services and strengthens access to specialized care in areas with limited healthcare resources.
The General Directorate of Telehealth, References and Emergencies aims for at least 80 percent of integrated establishments across Peru’s 25 regions to provide effective digital services this year. The Minister of Health, Dr. Juan Carlos Velasco, said the creation of the National Network of Health Technologies is key for adopting digital solutions that ensure a modern and efficient healthcare system with greater capacity to serve the population.
The Ministry said it remains committed to advancing digital health as a way to guarantee timely and quality care for all Peruvians regardless of their location.
