The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism announced on Apr. 16 a draft Supreme Decree proposing to extend the deadline for environmental compliance in ongoing tourism activities until June 2030. The proposal, published in El Peruano through Ministerial Resolution No. 094-2026-MINCETUR, invites public comment until April 29.
The initiative aims to address the significant number of businesses that have not yet started their environmental adaptation process under the Environmental Management Regulation for the Tourism Sector (RGAST). The original deadline was set for June 1, 2026, but authorities say many operators still need more time to comply with current regulations.
According to the ministry, those without an approved environmental management instrument may regularize their status by submitting either an Environmental Adaptation and Management Program or a Tourism Environmental Adaptation Plan. Additionally, holders who made expansions or modifications without proper authorization can also use new mechanisms for regularization.
The ministry said it has considered requests from major sector associations nationwide who reported operational, technical, and administrative difficulties meeting the initial deadline. The proposal was also discussed at the Executive Roundtable for Tourism Sector Development—a forum prioritizing actions to strengthen competitiveness and sustainability in tourism.
“With this initiative, the State reaffirms its commitment to responsible environmental management in tourism aimed at promoting sustainable development, protecting the environment and ensuring community well-being,” according to a statement from Mincetur.
