The Ministry of Health of Peru announced on March 18 that the country has become one of the leading nations in Latin America for telehealth, with more than nine million remote consultations conducted nationwide over the past three years. The announcement was made by Leonardo Rojas Mezarina, Vice Minister of Public Health, during the opening of the Ecosystem TechCare Congress.
Rojas Mezarina said that technological innovation is a key tool for improving quality of life by enabling more timely, equitable, and efficient access to health services. He emphasized the importance of technology in transforming Peru’s healthcare system.
During his remarks, Rojas Mezarina also highlighted the launch of the “Digital Hospital” initiative on December 24. This program provides specialized non-presential care, which helps optimize resources and expand the capacity of Peru’s health system.
According to Rojas Mezarina, these efforts are part of a broader move toward a modern, inclusive, and connected healthcare system in Peru. He said technology is becoming an essential tool for bringing medical attention closer to all citizens.
The Ministry’s focus on digital transformation reflects ongoing changes in healthcare delivery across Latin America. Observers will be watching how these initiatives continue to develop and impact patient care throughout the country.
