The Peruvian government has extended the operating license for Hydrocarbons Lot Z-69, managed by Petroperú, for an additional three years and six months, according to a May 15 announcement from the Ministry of Energy and Mines. The extension was approved through Supreme Decree No. 005-2026-EM and aims to ensure ongoing operations at one of Peru’s main offshore hydrocarbon fields located off the provinces of Talara, Paita, and Sechura in the Piura region.

This decision is intended to maintain a steady supply of hydrocarbons while supporting national energy security. The Ministry said this aligns with government policies focused on reviving domestic production and encouraging responsible investment in the hydrocarbons sector.

According to the Ministry, “the continuity of operations in this lot, considered as a strategic field for the country’s energy supply, will allow for increased national hydrocarbon production, stimulate local economic activity, promote direct and indirect job creation, and strengthen revenues from royalties and taxes benefiting the region.” The crude oil produced at Lot Z-69 is transported directly to the New Talara Refinery where it is processed into high-quality fuels for domestic consumption.

The Ministry also said: “MINEM reaffirms its commitment to continue promoting sustainable development in the hydrocarbons sector by encouraging responsible investments aimed at strengthening national energy security, reviving domestic production and contributing to regional development.”

The Ministerio de Energía y Minas promotes sustainable mining and energy development while protecting the environment and fostering harmony among stakeholders across Peru’s regions through regulations issued under ministerial guidance, according to its official website.
