The Ministry of Transport and Communications announced on Apr. 22 that Minister Aldo Prieto Barrera met with Dante Pescetto Fopiano, Ambassador of Panama in Peru, to strengthen bilateral relations and deepen cooperation in air transport.
The meeting focused on the importance of modernizing the current regulatory framework for air services between Peru and Panama. Both officials agreed on the need to update the Air Services Agreement to support better connectivity, encourage trade, and boost tourism between the two countries.
During their discussion, Prieto Barrera and Pescetto Fopiano highlighted the recent entry into force of a Memorandum of Understanding signed by civil aviation authorities from both nations on Jan. 21, 2026. According to an official note from the Embassy of Panama in Peru, this memorandum reflects compliance with internal procedures in both countries and is expected to promote technical cooperation in aviation.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment “to continue working jointly with Panama to promote a more efficient, safe, and competitive air transport system for citizens and economic development.” The Ministry supports cultural and social wellbeing by improving national connectivity through enhanced infrastructure according to its official website.
