The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, José Reyes, met with the Brazilian ambassador to Peru, Clemente Baena, on March 13 to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade and tourism.
The meeting focused on measures to boost economic ties between the two countries. Officials discussed efforts by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR) to enhance use of the Southern Interoceanic Corridor and multimodal corridors in northern and central Amazonas. These initiatives aim to connect products from various regions of Peru with major national ports and logistics infrastructure. The parties also proposed actions to streamline the exchange of goods between Peru and Brazil.
Tourism was another key topic during the talks. Both sides expressed interest in sharing experiences to promote religious tourism through a thematic route dedicated to Pope Leo XIV, highlighting the importance of the Christ the Redeemer Sanctuary as a tourist destination in Brazil.
The commitment to improving air connectivity and increasing visitor exchanges was reaffirmed. Brazil is one of Peru’s most significant source markets for tourists, ranking as its sixth largest international air market. Currently, flights from Lima connect with six Brazilian cities: Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, and Florianópolis.
Officials indicated that these discussions are part of ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral relations between Peru and Brazil in both commerce and tourism.
