The Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) announced on Apr. 20 that it organized a specialized workshop focused on Domain Name System (DNS) security and cybercrime investigation. The event was held through the Secretariat of Government and Digital Transformation and the National Center for Digital Security, with coordination from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

The initiative aimed to reinforce state digital security measures and improve the ability to respond to online threats. Representatives from key sectors—including security, justice, defense, economy, and telecommunications—participated in joint efforts to protect critical internet infrastructure. The workshop addressed how incidents such as phishing, identity theft, and malicious campaigns can be better managed while working toward increasing public trust in government digital services.

Participants discussed fundamental aspects of DNS protection. Organizers highlighted that improper use of DNS could affect the availability of public services, national security, and citizens’ confidence in digital environments.

The training also emphasized building capacity for investigating cybercrimes. The importance of having specialized teams as well as effective collaboration among agencies was underscored due to increasingly sophisticated threats.

Attendees included representatives from several ministries—Interior; Justice and Human Rights; Foreign Affairs; Transport and Communications—as well as entities such as Peru’s Central Reserve Bank, Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and Pension Funds Administrators (SBS), Banco de la Nación, National Police, Public Ministry, National Intelligence Directorate (DINI), Joint Command of the Armed Forces, OSIPTEL regulatory agency, RENIEC civil registry office, Peruvian Banking Association (ASBANC), among others.

In its statement following the event, PCM said it remains committed “to leading efforts that strengthen digital security and protect critical national infrastructure” so that citizens can rely on safer government digital services within the framework established by Peru’s National Digital Transformation Policy toward 2030.
