The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on March 23 that a total of 8,638 drivers from across the country participated in its Road Safety Course for Drivers, which concluded on March 20. The initiative aimed to strengthen knowledge and promote responsible driving.

The course was primarily targeted at drivers who had accumulated more than 100 points on their records, as outlined in Supreme Decree No. 001-2026-MTC published on January 11. Through an extraordinary and temporary regime, drivers with between 100 and less than 150 points were allowed to participate, provided they did not have a current suspension sanction or receive one during the process.

Of all participants, 79 percent (6,809 drivers) successfully completed the training. Of those who passed, 55 percent took the course virtually while the remaining 45 percent attended in person. Among approved participants, professional drivers involved in passenger and cargo transport made up about 62 percent; private vehicle drivers accounted for the remaining 38 percent. Additionally, there were foreign nationals among those who passed—250 individuals—with most linked to passenger and goods transport.

Regarding license classification among participants: approximately 95.9 percent held a Class A license while around four percent held a Class B license.

The Road Safety Course for Drivers remains open to those with fewer than 100 accumulated infraction points who have not been sanctioned with suspension or cancellation of their license at registration time. Interested individuals can access information online for Class A licenses at https://icjc.mtc.gob.pe/ and for Class B licenses at https://aulavirtual.mtc.gob.pe/seguridadvial/registro/. Additional information is available through the National Road Safety Observatory website (https://www.onsv.gob.pe/) or by contacting MTC’s digital channels.
