More than 41,000 residents in rural areas of Peru are now able to access 4G mobile services for the first time, following the installation of base stations in 177 localities that previously lacked coverage. This development is part of investment commitments made through the coverage canon mechanism led by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), according to a March 24 announcement.

The expansion aims to reduce the digital divide and bring essential digital services to remote parts of the country. The implementation for the year 2025 represents an investment of S/75,353,079 as part of efforts to increase connectivity and support social and economic activities.

Base stations have been installed by América Móvil Perú S.A.C., Entel Perú S.A., Integratel Perú S.A.A., and Viettel Perú S.A.C. These companies are fulfilling their investment obligations in rural zones as part of a broader strategy to improve telecommunications infrastructure across various regions including Huánuco, San Martín, Cusco, Huancavelica, Áncash, Cajamarca, Ayacucho, Amazonas, Junín, Piura, La Libertad, Arequipa, Puno, Pasco, Apurímac, Ucayali as well as Loreto, Tumbes and Madre de Dios.

The MTC said it is closely monitoring progress to ensure that these investments directly benefit local populations. Operators have until July 2026 to complete installations across a total of 441 localities.

According to the ministry’s statement, improved access to mobile services will enhance communication capabilities in these communities while supporting productive activities and opening new opportunities for families who historically lacked connectivity.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to promoting further deployment of telecommunications infrastructure with an aim toward more inclusive national connectivity.
