Over 11,000 tons of food supply Lima at stable prices in wholesale markets

The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation announced on Apr. 28 that more than 11,000 tons of food entered Lima’s wholesale markets with stable prices for key products such as potatoes, carrots, lemons, avocados, apples, and granadillas.

Officials reported that the total volume reached 11,339 tons at the Gran Mercado Mayorista de Lima and the Mercado Mayorista de Frutas No. 2 in La Victoria. The Gran Mercado Mayorista de Lima received 8,817 tons of legumes, vegetables, and tubers—4 percent higher than the average for recent Tuesdays—with potato supplies reaching 3,217 tons.

Prices for main items included carrots at S/0.87 per kilogram; canchan potatoes at S/1.50; macre squash at S/1.53; Yungay potatoes at S/1.63; huayro potatoes at S/1.78; bagged lemons at S/1.89; yellow sweet potatoes at S/1.93; red onions at S/2.03; green beans (haba verde serrana) at S/2.05; peruanita potatoes at S/2.08; unica potatoes at S/2.10; katia tomatoes at S/2.22 among others.

At the fruit market in La Victoria, officials noted an entry of 2,522 tons of fruit with offers such as watermelon (S/0.83/kg), coquito melon (S/1.06/kg), Valencia oranges (S/1.29/kg), bizcocho bananas (S/1.50/kg), regular apples (S/1.55/kg), satsuma mandarins (S/1.70/kg), tangelo oranges (S/1.74/kg), criolla avocados (S/1.81/kg) and other varieties.

The ministry also reported adequate supplies of poultry products across distribution centers and said wholesale egg prices stood at S/6.05 per kilogram.
