The Ministry of Health announced on April 13 that a total of 39,762 health professionals will participate in the evaluation for the Rural and Marginal Urban Health Service (Serums) 2026-I. The evaluation is scheduled for Sunday, April 19 and will be held nationwide under principles of transparency, free access, and decentralization.
This assessment involves candidates from twelve different health science fields. These include human medicine, nursing, obstetrics, pharmacy and biochemistry, nutrition, dentistry, medical technology, psychology, social work, biology, veterinary medicine and sanitary engineering.
According to the General Directorate of Health Personnel at the Ministry of Health (Digep), psychology has the highest number of applicants with 9,589 candidates. Nursing follows with 8,486 participants; human medicine with 6,894; dentistry with 4,199; pharmacy and biochemistry with 2,759; medical technology with 2,052; obstetrics with 2,049; nutrition with 1,158; social work with 1,097; biology with 857; veterinary medicine with 487; and sanitary engineering rounding out the list at 135.
The exam content is divided into five thematic blocks: Public Health; Comprehensive Health Care; Ethics and Interculturality; Health Services Management; and Research. These topics are aligned to reflect the functions professionals will perform during their service period.

Officials highlight that all topics assessed relate directly to future responsibilities during Serums service. This aims to ensure quality care for vulnerable populations across Peru.
