The National Symphony Orchestra of Peru and the National Choir of Peru, both official ensembles of the Ministry of Culture, announced on March 29 that they will present a concert titled “Aleluya. Pasión y resurrección” in observance of Holy Week. The performance is scheduled for Wednesday, April 1 at 8:00 p.m. at the Gran Teatro Nacional under the direction of maestro Fernando Valcárcel.
The event aims to provide an opportunity for reflection through well-known pieces from the symphonic choral repertoire. According to organizers, this musical proposal seeks to invite audiences into contemplation and introspection during an important period in the Christian calendar.
The program will feature works by Gustav Mahler, an Austro-Bohemian opera conductor, and George Frideric Händel, a renowned German-British composer. The evening will begin with Mahler’s “Kindertotenlieder” (Songs on the Death of Children), inspired by poems from Friedrich Rückert mourning his daughter’s death. This piece is described as deeply emotional and explores themes such as grief, memory, and transcendence.
Audiences will also hear selected choruses and musical excerpts from Händel’s oratorio “Messiah,” including its famous “Hallelujah” chorus—a work that has become one of the most frequently performed pieces in choral music worldwide.
Organizers say that through this concert, the Ministry’s Directorate of National Ensembles hopes to offer a musical experience aligned with themes of spiritual reflection by providing artistic spaces where voices and melodies serve as vehicles for emotion, connection, mysticism, and devotion.
Tickets are available through Teleticket and at the Gran Teatro Nacional box office starting at 15 soles. A 50 percent discount applies for those under 18 years old, university or technical institute students, seniors, public school teachers, members of voluntary military service, and CONADIS affiliates.
