The Museo de Sitio Chan Chan announced on Apr. 27 that it will host a free cultural event on Sunday, May 3, as part of the national initiative Museos Abiertos. The program will feature more than ten activities throughout the day.
The event aims to strengthen identity, promote inclusion, and highlight the heritage of Chimú culture through a range of civic ceremonies, educational workshops, artistic performances, and cultural fairs. Activities will begin at 10:00 a.m., including the raising of the national flag with participation from authorities, official tourism guides, artisans, and visitors.
Throughout the day there will be traditional games and workshops such as painting Chimú iconography and interactive activities like “Ruleta gana cultura” and “PatriActívate,” designed to reinforce knowledge about Chan Chan’s cultural legacy. Artistic presentations are scheduled to include puppet theater, dance performances, music recitals by local groups and university students. A notable highlight is the presentation of Luna Clarysel Vela Méndez’s book “Retrato de una Escritora Especial,” featuring literature focused on memory and inclusion along with a marinera dance performance.
Other activities include a workshop called “Pan de cazador” led by Grupo Scout San Jorge 83 in the museum’s native forest area. Cultural groups such as Quinteto de Vientos Munay from Asociación Cultural Arpegio; Santiago Tusuy; Escuela Profesional de Educación Inicial from Universidad Nacional de Trujillo; Asociación Cultural Arce Rojo; Proyecto Glee; and Escuela de Canto Entre Voces are also participating.
A gastronomic fair organized in coordination with Gerencia Regional de Comercio Exterior y Turismo de La Libertad and Asociación de Restaurantes y Aliados (ARAL) will showcase culinary offerings from Julcán province alongside an artisan fair featuring locally made Chimú products.
