The Museo de Sitio Chan Chan will host a range of cultural activities on Sunday, April 5, as part of the Museos Abiertos initiative. Christian Arbaiza Mendoza, director of the Dirección Desconcentrada de Cultura (DDC) of La Libertad, said the event aims to promote free access to cultural heritage and encourage public participation.
The program is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. with the raising of the national flag. This ceremony will include officials from DDC La Libertad, official tour guides, artisans, and visitors. Throughout the day, attendees can take part in various educational and recreational activities such as traditional games like ludo and checkers, workshops focused on Chimú iconography painting, and an interactive activity called “Ruleta gana cultura,” all designed to share knowledge about Chimú history and values as well as highlight the legend of Taycanamo.
Artistic performances are also planned for the event. Students from Universidad Nacional de Trujillo’s School of Early Childhood Education and I.E. N.º 80018 República de México will participate alongside local cultural groups presenting puppet shows, poetry readings, dance performances, singing acts, and live music. Notable participating groups include Centro de Arte Inclusivo Mis Tres Amores, Proyecto Glee group, Compañía de Canto Arce Rojo choir company, and Arpegio Perú string quintet.
Visitors will have access to exhibitions such as a display of Chimú ceramic iconography by artisan Jhon Espejo and “Semillas de identidad: reinvención gastronómica del pallar pinto mochero,” presented by student volunteers from I.E. María Negrón Ugarte’s Environmental Volunteer Program. There will also be a fair featuring regional food products and crafts.
Activities are scheduled until 4:00 p.m., reinforcing Museo de Sitio Chan Chan’s role as a space for learning about culture for people of all ages. The Ministry of Culture’s Museos Abiertos initiative allows free entry to museums on the first Sunday each month in order to bring citizens closer to these spaces while promoting appreciation for Peru’s cultural heritage.
